Wine has always been a part of Jewish life. Jews will be quick to remind us that it was Noah (of Noah's Ark) who planted the first vineyard and that there are 167 references to the vine in the Old Testament (I counted them, honest!).
Unfortunately, when we think about kosher wine, those syrupy, sweet concoctions of the past most often come to mind. Today's kosher wine is another story entirely. Read our review of some of Israel's top kosher wines.
To celebrate how far kosher wine has come in the past two decades, Royal Wine hosted a Kosher Food and Wine Experience at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Lower Manhattan. The event was quickly sold out. Over 200 kosher wines were available for tasting - the products of Israeli winemakers who studied their craft in France, Germany, Spain, and the United States.
A highlight of the event was an auction of rare kosher wines, one of which garnered a bid of $1,000.
The Kosher Food and Wine Experience is expected to become an annual event. Information will be posted on the Royal Wine website.
