The Festival of Rosh Hashanah falls on September 13 this year. Jewish wine lovers (and others as well) can celebrate with spectacular Kosher wines from France, Israel, and California.
A new boutique winery in Israel, Psagot, is offering its Edom 2004 (Israel) red wine. This wine has been awarded several gold medals in Israel for its unique quality and rich flavors of cherries and currants.
From the famous Baron Rothschild estate in Pauillac comes the 2003 Baron Rothschild Haute Medoc, an elegant, classic Bordeaux said to be the best in recent years.
Joe Hurliman, our favorite California Kosher winemaker, has made a considerable lineup of splendid Kosher wines for the Herzog label. 2004 Herzog Special Reserve Syrah, made from Edna Valley fruit, is well-crafted in the northern Rhône style. Look for flavors and aromas of plums and berries with a hint of white pepper. Joe is also introducing a 2005 Herzog Pinot Noir Edna Valley, redolent with intense aromas of rose petals, red berries and clove. For dessert try the 2005 Herzog Late Harvest Chenin Blanc Clarksburg. Reminiscent of a Quart de Chaumes, this rich dessert wine shows attractive flavors of apple, pear, melon, and pineapple.
